Description
This is a rare marine fossil know as "Lily Of The Sea" The crinoid fossil is mostly intact and shows amazing details.
Crinoid are an ancient fossil group that first appeared in the seas of the mid Cambrian, about 300 million years before dinosaurs. They flourished in the Palaeozoic and Mesozoic eras and some form relative survive to the present day.
They were amazing animals, with long stems by which they would anchor themselves to a rock or the bottom of the sea floor. They swayed with the currents and used they various tentacles to sieve thru the water for plankton and nutrients.
The head of the Crinoid is called a Calyx, it contained the mouth and the anus.
This Crinoid fossil specimen is in great condition featuring great detail, color and preservation, the background has been stained slightly to produce more contrast.
